In 1996, keen to study family and local history, Shirlee researched her own family tree and developed a strong bond with fellow family historians in Casino NSW joining their group and assisting others in family history research. After completing an Advanced Diploma of Local, Family & Applied History Shirlee graduated from UNE in 2000. During her studies she wrote several articles on local historical landmarks and buildings. Shirlee researched and documented a number of the Casino Folk Museum artefacts and became interested in helping the little museum manage their collection better. This experience prompted her to undertake further study in order to help other small museums with their collections. After moving to Melbourne Shirlee completed a Graduate Diploma of Museum Studies in 2003 and gained employment in the museum sector. She has worked as Curatorial Assistant and Tour Guide for Melbourne & Olympic Parks; as Collections Assistant for Melbourne Cricket Club Museum and is currently working in the museum sector in South Gippsland. Shirlee volunteers at the Frankston Historical Society and is assisting the committee with cataloguing and photographing their collection. Her love for helping others, for undertaking research, organising collections and meeting new people has prompted her to establish Touched In Time - Collections Care. Let Shirlee help you organise and protect your precious collection. She can do the work for you or will provide you with the skills, materials and knowledge to do it yourself. If you are interested in researching your family history Shirlee can assist you. She can train individuals or small groups and is only too happy to respond to your inquiries. |
